You are invited to the breakfast meeting of the Cobbold Chapter of Business Network International at David Lloyds Gyms (formerly Next Generation) Ransomes Euro Park, Nacton Road, Ipswich IP3 9SJ on Friday 29th January 2010, at 7.00am – 9.00am.

Business referrals are the lifeline of most businesses, and if you could benefit from a weekly meeting passing business to likeminded people, then we would be happy to share this business with you.  No catches, no time wasted just business.

BNI is a business and professional networking organisation whose primary purpose is to exchange qualified business referrals and as word of mouth is the best advertising around, could YOU benefit from this kind of business networking, let me put it this way, could you afford to give up 2 hours and have a look?

What makes BNI unique is that it allows only one person per profession to join a chapter. Thus, once you’ve joined, there is no conflict in passing leads, and none of your competitors can participate!  The Cobbold chapter is currently looking for more professions to refer business to.

We would like to invite you to the next meeting so you can learn more about the organisation, and find out if you would be interested in generating a steady source of referral business for yourself.

Seating will be limited, so please RSVP by contacting us by email.  There is a nominal £8.50 meeting fee, which includes a buffet breakfast.  If you have any questions, please contact us.  Remember to bring plenty of business cards to pass around, as you will meet a lot of local business people.

Please ensure you contact us prior to arranging to attend, we can only accept businesses who profession is not already taken. Should your business category conflict with an existing member, you will be unable to attend.

I was asked by a female client to trace the father of her 40 year old son.

No contact since child born and was only given full name (fairly common name), date of birth and last known address in Essex –and already known to have moved out a long time ago – parents address  – long since departed.

Through my endeavours, extensive data base searches, calls to neighbours and old friends and 2 visits to the town in Essex , I finally traced the person concerned last Monday. Managed to find some of his personal details and reported findings to my client. All within 2 weeks of instructions and a very reasonable fee.

At first I thought this was an impossible job, but David Degiorgio of London House Services came up trumps…………….

Did you know that …

• A survey by communications giant Orange found that 62% of staff working for firms with more than 1,000 employees would be prepared to work flexibly to aid their firm’s chance of survival during the recession.

• From 1 October 2009, the limit on a week’s pay for the purposes of calculating a statutory redundancy payment will rise from £350 to £380.

Although redundancy may seem inevitable to some organisations, there may be other options.  Private sector firms including KPMG, Jaguar Land Rover, JCB and Ryanair all opted to reduce working hours or implement pay freezes earlier this year in a bid to save jobs and hang on to key talent and both Nissan and Honda have cut production and brought in short time working.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants predicts that the UK economy will grow by 0.5% in the third quarter of 2009 and confidence in the economy is rising so it may not be the best option to lose skilled employees that could be costly to replace as things improve.  Short time working or layoffs can be effective in handling temporary work shortages and adverse trading conditions without having to resort to redundancy.

However, many businesses do not have a clause for this in their contract of employment which can make this area a legal minefield.
